i have an ASM G1 in my 29 gallon cube, sump is 10 gallon, i was wondering if the skimmer is too big for the tank? i have to add fresh water every 2 days because of evaporation.
You will have to add freshwater because of evaporation with or without the skimmer. Look into an auto top off. I wouldn't think a G1 would be too bad on a 29, whats it rated for a 90-100g?
Its hard to overskim. I have yet to see an overskimmed system.
If you were constantly needing to add salt because of the amount of water you were removing, then, I would say you were overskimming but personnally I always try to overskim.

I agree but it is wasted energy running a super sized skimmer on a small tank.
Usually in a small tank the concern is nitrates and phosphates---live rock, a dsb and or a refugium are better ways to deal with nitrates and phosphates
what happens sometimes though is if you have say a g3 on a 10 gallon the foam head wont be as consistent as it would be on a g1.
one might say is it going to skim the water better yes and no.. after four years i have finally figured out that maybe going a little higher is good but not overkill..
i ran a euroreef rc500 on a 150 and to me i could have skimmed just as good with my rc-135 in my opinion. especially on the 150
now on my 220 with a bigger sump my rc-500 skimmed better.. i believe because it matched my system better..
