Oxygen levels

MB7 w/ 5.5aga refugium

My Aquaclear mini just decided to dump about 1/6 gallon of water out of the pump area onto my stand... so i turned it off... :). (it is working fine now, not on the tank though).

The question is... between my overflow and two PH's in the refugium below and the return trip back up to the tank... is there plenty of motion (without the aquaclear rippling the display surface) to create enough oxygen in the water? or should i drop an airstone in or something?

if you have an overflow it should be enough to create sufficient oxygen exchange. what does it overflow into?

I drilled a hole and put a plexi box on the back, then it goes into 3/4" pvc and down about 18 inches to the 5.5aga refu below. (lots of air bubbles from the overflow tube in the refugium)

yea, you should be fine then. a nano with that kind of exchange sounds good. as loong as youre getting water dropping and bubbling.

Most people in SW hobby do not use airstone because it will cause salt creep on the edge of you tank. Most commonly, people use a powerhead and deflect the flow towards the surface to get better oxygen and CO2 exchange.

are you suggesting i need more exchange? (airstone would be temp until i go get a new filter tomorrow)

I think you have good gas exchange already.

What's you pH like (day/night)? If they look OK, you should not have gas exchange problem, since CO2 is not accumulating in the water.
