You may find if you soak the pellets a bit, the files will have an easier time taking them out of the water column.

I just have a lone female now and she is doing very well going on a couple years. Still my favorite species to keep.

Coming to the close on my second week owning them, I'm noticing that the male is noticeably fatter than the female with a stomach bump. The female isn't plump, but she isn't skinny either. I'm feeding 4-5x per day, just wondering if anyone has suggestions to get her fattened up some more. The good news is that I see the male attempting what I believe is some courting behavior.

I do plan on trying a brine shrimp feeder similar to Paul B's with these guys once they are in the display.

I bought mine 3 days ago. It was skinny but it did eat (or try to) brineshrimp so I rescued it.
Brought home and it went around scavenging for food but didn't really eat what I threw at (mysis, krill, pellets).
Today I got some small hawksbury prawns (australia), peeled and blenderised and it went berserk and ate like a pig
It has such a small mouth it goes for the bigger pieces but can't fit it in it's mouth so key to success is small size.

Howdy Filefish Fans. I picked up a skinny female at the LFS today. They gave her to me for 10 bucks. She ate some flake at the store and a little in QT. She's pretty active but super skinny. I've had one come back from skinnier. It's gonna be a lot tougher without nutramar ova.

Thanks. She is eating but it's kind of pooky. I decided to roll the dice and introduce her to my dt where she can at least graze a little on algae and coral. My existing female went a little ballistic. I've kept two females before without issue. Hopefully, the intimidation will be short lived. But it's driven the skinny new comer behind the rocks which was the opposite of what I'd hoped for. :headwalls:

Howdy. Thanks for asking. It went terribly. The existing female started bullying the weak newcomer. Disappeared over night. I knew I might lose the fish but that wasn't the cause I anticipated. I've never seen such intense bullying between two females. My lone female continues to thrive.

Bump I got a pair from D & D coming Tuesday I will keep them in a pretty laidback aquarium with Ventralis Anthias, pipefish and a few zebra morays

I still have this female. Got her on 5/30/2013, making her at least 7 years old! Not a great picture, but a recent one!
