So that brings us to last weekend when I started the RO drip. 435 gallons = 3 days to fill it up since I have a booster.

After 3 days - there goes 2 boxes (8 bags) of IO salt.....

Got my VHO lamps in last week and hooked all 4 up, fired up nicely.

Light rack fully assembled

This past Saturday morning, I lifted the light rack up and placed it on the wooden holders I put on the tank for the hanging

So after talking my gf into helping me lift the light rack, we got it on the threaded rods and got the butterfly nuts started in all 4 corners. It's amazing how easy it is to raise/level the light rack with this setup. Right now the rack is about 17" off the water.

Here's a shot of just the VHO's over the dusty tank:

And finally, while a couple people were over last night I snapped a couple shots....first is with the VHO's only:

Thanks. I have a long fish room in an unfinished section of my basement directly underneath this new tank. I want to clean it all up and re-wire things down there before I take pictures and share. It's a mess right now.

Put another 6 bags of Seachem Pearl Beach sand in the tank the other day and the dust that results from this sand is insane. I have a mag 2 pushing the water through a filter sock now but I'm not sure if the dust is too fine to get caught by the sock.

Any ideas for removing the fine dust from the water column? I'd really like to stay away from another $80 in salt and 3 days of RO drip to take everything out.

If you have an old canister laying around pack it full of quilt batting. You can get it from walmart for about 5 bux. Otherwise i would think a filter sock should get it all eventually....

In my experience there is no easy way to get rid of that fine silt. Eventually it will settle and people claim that when bacteria start to inhibit it it will get heavier. When I set up my 75 gal, I had the same problem - used filter socks and canister filters and thought the problem went away. Then I got a sand shifting goby and the cloudiness just returned. I got so sick of it, that I put all the corals, rocks, and fish in buckets, saved as much water as I could and pulled out all the sand, rinsed it thoroughly with a 5 gallon bucket and a garden hose then put it back. I never had the problem again nor will I ever add sand again without rinsing it first.

Id suggest you drain the tank (save the water) pull out the sand and rinse it properly. It will be a continual headache otherwise.

I have 4 filter socks and now a huge skimmer so I can either take the chance and see I can pull it out or drain the tank. Problem is I don't have a place to put 435 gallons of water and don't want to throw it away.

Looks like I am going to let the system work overtime for a bit and do a couple water changes over the next week or so.
