Ozone in Basement with Gas Furnace & Water Heater?

Can/how do I run an Ozonizer in a basement that has a gas furnace and water heater? I have a Neptune Apex to control the ozone output. I plan on running the ozone through a Skimz SK222. Would this be safe?

I do not definitively know they answer to your question. I have an additional question that I feel might help someone else answer your question.

Does your furnace use inside or outside air (high efficiency closed system) for combustion air?

Anecdotally, I used ozone in my basement with a both a hot water heater and an older style furnace that used inside air for combustion. My tank was an in-wall tank and the tank room included both the water heater and furnace. I did not have any issues. I paid attention to if I could strongly smell ozone or not and mode changes if I could smell it.

I recently upgraded to a higher efficiency (closed system) furnace that draws air for combustion from outside my home. One of the smaller reasons I did this was for peace of mind for ozone use.

Assuming you treat the air effluent with GAC (recommended), there will be no significant ozone released.

But in either case, ozone is not flammable nor will the tiny traces cause problems that I know of in such appliances. The ozone will at most be at levels way, way below the O2, and will probably react like O2 in the combustion chamber.

Trace ozone release is much more of a concern for your health than its impact on an appliance. :)

I'm not sure what that setup is like, but proper treatment of the air and water effluent streams is a drawback of skimmers and ozone (rather than dedicated ozone reactors) because the flow is usually so high.
