Ozone question regarding use of carbon

If you use a controller that is constantly monitoring the ORP and can switch the ozonizer on and off based on the ORP, is there any need to run the skimmer output over carbon? I have an ozone generator I want to install and intend to keep the ORP below 400 (at about 375) with the controller, so do I need to run the output over carbon? Is there any chance of residual ozone getting in the water if the ORP stays below 400? I tried to use the search function but could not get in to it.

Thanks,
HDAlien

Edit: Planning on dosing 20-25 mg of ozone in a 90 gal. reef system.

IMO Ozone is Ozone...as long as your generator is on, there will be residual Ozone...better safe than sorry....I always use carbon with Ozone.

I prefer not to rely on ORP controllers to adjust ozone input - too prone to failure, and just like bread always falls butter side down, these controllers always seem to fail in the "on" position for me.
Also, although carbon will remove free ozone, I'm not sure that it will remove ozone oxidants very well (if any are produced). You also might want to consider running the air coming out of your skimmer over a bed of carbon to reduce ozone levels in the room air.

You might consider buying a DPD chlorine test kit, just to double check to make sure that there are no residual ozone oxidants left in your skimmer effluent. You might also consider turning the ozone off at night - just in case the ORP controller sticks on.

well, I have to say your are correct in that opinion. One morining I woke up to an ORP reading of over 600.....ouch. I had a momentary power outage which reset my ACIII, at the time I had my ozone on manual....Fried the fins off my Sailfin Tang and turned my 6 line wrasse white......both fish are fine now the 6 line is fully recovered and the Silfin's fins are growing back slowly.
