Ozone Reactor Questions

From a DIY standpoint, I have a couple of questions: 1) If I use a recirc pump, what would be better, something like a Mag 7 or a Mag 2? I'm not sure if you want a lot of recirculation or a little. 2) How much flow should be coming out of the efluent line? A drip/slow stream like Ca reactor, or a steady/heavy flow?

My thinking is that I would use a Mag2 to recirc, and a very small Maxi Jet (400 or 600) to feed the system, so that I have a light flow out of the reactor. Does that sound right?

Also, where should my ORP be? and how will the ozone impact that number (make it higher or lower)?

Thanks a lot for all of the info so far!

No recirc pump is needed john, the way the reactor works is water is fed through the top along with the ozone & as it makes it's way down the reactor it mixes in the bio media then it exits through the bottom & out to the carbon media.
all u need is a pump that will have about 700 to 800 GPH as it comes in to the top of the chamber, i use a quietone 4000.
when i hooked up my ORP it was 315 i keep it at 365.
u want ur orp to be around 360 to 375 some people run it at 400 & i just think ur looking for problems when u go up that high.
i also clean my ORP probe every week all i do is soak it in vinegar for 10 minutes & then flush it with a litte DI water & back in the tank.

One More Question: I have the reactor built pretty much like the drawing above (except without the recirc loop) and it all seems to run really well. The only thing is I don't have the ozone hooked into it. My question is this: How do I tie in the ozone? The hose that came with the generator is an odd size. I planned on using either a 1/4" or 3/8" JG fitting, but it's too small for one and too large for the other. My only guess is that it must just go over a small barbed fitting. Do they sell a really small barbed fitting that will screw into a 3/4" NPT fitting?

Any info on how your ozone attaches to the generator is appreciated. TIA!

Well Steve, that got me to the right church, now I need to know which pew! What material is compatible with O3? Nylon, Polypropylene, PVDF, or Brass?

Thanks for the info so far.

Well, I've got the reator pretty much up and running (just waiting on a check valve and air dryer). The one thing I noticed is that I needed to put a ball valve on the drain line because without it I wasn't able to maintain any water level inside the chamber. With the ball valve, I can control how high up I keep the level. I've been running it with the water about 4-6" up from the bottom. Even with this water level, I still get bubbles out of my carbon filter. Is this normal or do I have something out of balance? Either not enough water flow? Not enough resonance time? Too much ozone?

I'm getting close and will hopefully be able to put a fork in this thread soon! As always, any input is appreciated.

John since u are using a pressure pump with bio balls im guessing that is where ur bubbles are coming from, as long as they are not getting back in ur tank i woulnt worry about it.
