Ozone safe skimmer

Im in the market for a skimmer that I can run ozone through safely. It seems to be really hard to find info on all the models about what they are made of. I really like the Bubble Magnus 220 but cant get an answer if its injection mold plastic or acrylic. It will be going on a 300g mixed reef and I can get one of these skimmers for $560 delivered. If anyone has any input on the materials used for this skimmer or any comparable (price and performance) ozone safe skimmers, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't speak for the Magnus skimmer on whether or not it is ozone safe but I do know that MRC's skimmers are perfectly ok for use w ozone.

What is it that makes a skimmer O3 safe? Different acrylic?

Yes most skimmers are made of injection mold plastic versus O3 safe acrylic. I have not been able to find anything conclusive on bubble magnus skimmers but I have read a thread from ultimate reef where one aquarist said they were using it waith ozone. Any other experiences with O3 and bubble magnus?

Marine Technical Concepts skimmers are ozone safe. I've been running ozone in my four venturi power pro for years.

Some skimmers are made from extruded acrylic which is not ozone safe. Most of the newer skimmers are made from cell cast - or cast acrylic which is ozone safe. Injection molded plastic skimmers would cost you way too much money and would also be considered a cast product. Injection molded tools are milled from metal and are used to create thousands and thousands of repetitive parts. The tooling itself would cost thousands of dollars.

More often than not, skimmers made from cast acrylic should be fine. I believe the BM skimmers are cast as well.

In time and with sufficient ozone use - even cell cast will discolor. Had this happen to me years ago..... Since resorted a separate ozone reactor when and if I ever need ozone again.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I did finally get an email back from the BM manufacturing CS dept that said the newer model skimmers are ozone safe. So I guess I will hold onto that email in case it does ruin the skimmer so I can get a new one from them.

Did they say they would replace it? Because that statement in no way is a guarantee.:worried2:

It has a 1 year warranty. I did find that it is made from injected molded acrylic which I have read is ozone safe. Have been running for almost a month now and there is no spiderwebbing in the acrylic. Will keep everyone posted

Final words

Well I went with the bubble magus 220cs and have been running ozone through it for the past few months and wanted to give an update on my experience thus far. After researching ad nauseum, I found the BM to be the best bang for the buck. I spliced the ozone into the air intake right above the air line insert into the pump and have had great success thus far. Water clarity and polyp extension are extremely noticeable. I have no o3 smell once I got it dialed in. If anyone has any questions about my set-up, drop me a line. Thanks for everyone's help.
