why is it important to dry the ozone feeding into the skimmer, a wet environment?
also, is it true that one can smell the ozone when the system is activated? I know ozone in elevated quantities may have some health implications. Someone posted that they place some charcoal near the skimmate collection jug. Any other ideas/discussion along this line.

You're drying the air as it goes into the ozone generator, by drying it you are getting the most output from your generator.

No...I think I willl go with the long coil of tubing though. Just need to figure out how exactly to set it up right and safe. I know its a simple idea but I am not entirely sure how its done yet.

Well if your interested in doing the coil of tubing thing, I have a bit more info now...
Basically you just need 50' of something like silicone or HDPE tubing (anything ozone safe), a pump that will pump water all the way through but not too fast, I guess you could also use a valve, a venturi to inject the ozone into the water and a carbon chamber on the output end to filter water before it returns to the sump.
One of the things Im still trying to find out, is if ozone will leak a little where it hooks up to the venturi? I just want to make sure it doesnt or else design something to hold carbon there as well.
other thing of course to remember is that the tubing will still need to be changed up every once in a while to make sure it is not cracking. I figure I will keep the tubing in a bucket behind my sump, so if it cracks, I don't have a huge mess.
Anyways, I am setting this up this weekend and will post pics after if all goes well.

would a rio pro twin pump (used for protien skimmers like a bakpak) work? it is about 200 gph ....
could you put the pump and the tubing right in the sump -- this way if it cracks there wont be a mess..

I plan on measuring the amount of water the tubing will hold, then figure out GPH for a dwell time of 30-45 seconds.
I don't think leaks at the venturi will be a issue.
Finding the right tubing locally, now that may be a issue.
Keeping the tubing in a bucket is a good idea, but if it does crack and leak it may not take long for the bucket to fill up. Either way in a bucket or out of a bucket if something goes wrong and nobody is home you will rpobably have a mess.
Although, I may try the bucket trick w/ a float switch mounted to the inside just above the coil, controlling the pump. Make sure the bucket is higher or at least taller than the sump.

Well yeah if it leaks and your not home it would not make a huge difference. I plan on just changing the tubing every 4-6 months anyways and using silicone tubing. Better be safe I think.
I am not so sure anymore that a powerhead will work for this though. I think with the pressure of a 50' tube, you will need a bigger pump. I may try a MAG 5 and have a valve on it if its too much. I like the idea of having good control over the pump. Im not to sure a powerhead would even work too well with the venturi I got.
