I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this but I think it borders more on the advanced side than the newbie side...

Anywho, I was toying around with the idea of trying out an ozonizer. My basis being that it seems like it would help offer an even cleaner environment for my fish. bacterial disinfection and viral inactivation seems like a good thing but what I wonder is just how effective the use of ozone is and if it causes any detrimental effects (ie ultra-stable temperature causing fish to be over-sensitive to temperature swings). I have a 125 fowlr with a 75 sump/fuge, not very heavily stocked because the fish are still small. Any experiences or advice would be awesome, thanks in advance!

Ozone has its place, but I think it is too oldschool for most people. It looks like it is making a comeback though. It is excellent for clearing tinted water from DOC's, and it also removes nitrates.

I made an ozone system that worked really well, and was very inexpensive. I had to tweek it quite a bit and monitor it. Going to full automation with sensors will make the costs soar.

Anyway, here it the thread.

Randy just answered many questions on Ozone in chem forum. posted some good articles as reference.

I use it on all of my tanks and like it. BUT I am running a low dosage and not controlling it based on ORP. Crystal clear water.

I think it's great for large systems where water clarity can become an issue but not necessarily for smaller systems. The negative effects can outweigh the positive if you aren't careful. BTW large means 500+ gallons.
