I am going to get a new tank and make it mainly Acros

I want really good water to keep them alive


Dose anyone use a ozonizer to have cleaner water?

If you use it tell me the benefits and the pros and cons


is a orp tester needed?

If you are going to use one I recommend an orp probe. If you use Ozone it will make your water look much clearer and it will help with keeping film algae in check. I've used one for years while my tank was a fish only, but had to turn it off because I'm dosing carbon other bacteria. Most people keeping sps don't use ozone, you can also post the question to the sps forum at the following if you want to get a concensus...

I think it can be dosed with carbon dosing and may help remove some of the excess organics created by such dosing ,particularly if used in conjunction with granulated activated carbon.

Those are great articles posted by tmz, the use of Ozone is beneficial - but must be closely monitored. make sure you are up to the task - there is a safety issue not just to the fish - but to you and your family too.

I have been running ozone for 3 years and all I ever noticed was clearer water and no other benefits. I still run ozone but I keep it at a very low level just to keep my water clear. Since my ozone use is low I don’t use carbon, ORP probe, or an air dryer.

I think the most important thing about running ozone is that you don’t need a lot to notice a big difference in water clarity.

I agree. Start out slow. I have a 220mg/hr unit that is adjustable and I'm running it at about 25% right now, without an air drier.

If you inject it in your skimmer it will affect skimmate production. For me, it seems to help, up to a point, then the skimmer output drops.

I have crystal clear water BTW.

Better for you so you can see the sps. As for the sps, they don't care as long as they get proper nutrients and good light penetration (which clear water will help). But in the ocean, it's not clear everyday of the week. Also, there are other ways to achieve clear water too. Carbon will get all the color (usually green) out of the water and recently, people who are dosing vodka are seeing tremendous water clarity (I can vouch to that).

As mentioned before, be careful with Ozone, dose very small amounts unless you know what you are doing. But that kinda goes for everything else too, lol.
