P. Cilliata dropped spearing appendage, what to do??

My P. Ciliata dropped its spearing apendages after its last molt and now I'm confused as to how to get them to grow back. I've heard of smashers dropping thier smashing apendages when they are no longer needed (ex. no hard food to smash) but never of a spearer dropping its appendages. Should I injure fish so he can still catch them or just feed him dead food? Any help is appreciated.

It will only be able to eat soft food such as shrimp meat, worms, etc. It should be able to regenerate the appendages, but it will take several months and three molts.
