painting canopy

i have a stock black stand and i want to paint the canopy. I am thinking the stand is lacquer but thats too much work. so i am thinking high gloss paint oil based. i am just wondering if being oil based its ok to be near saltwater

When painting the back of my tanks, I've always used a roller and oil based paint over a spray. The same goes for touching up my stands. This was actually recommemded to me by the folks at Marine Oasis.

Fun fact - oil based paint will cleanly pull off the backside of your aquarium in a single sheet, if you ever change your mind about having the backside painted.

I used rustoleum satin black paint for my stand.

I just stopped and grabbed some gloss black at walmart we will see how it goes

Plus 1 for the rustoleum painters touch black. I have painted many stands with it, along with their primer.
