Hi,

1 of the two is super, the other has been breathing heavy and stressed for a few days. I had a gut feeling it's at the end of it's rope. I decided to move him to my big refugium under the tank, it's nice and calm in there. I am thinking a few days chilling out and feeding garlic guard will do him some good if he makes it a few more days. Was this an ok thing to do? He has no signs of disease, all other fish are happy. Should I have moved the other clown in there with him? Will they be streesed over being separated? Thanks for any info!

Pulled from http://www.wetwebmedia.com/clnfshdisart.htm:
"Indicative of either pathogenic, environmental and/or social disease." & "Less than twenty or more than sixty gill movements per minute." for rapid or deep breathing.

Now I would rule out social disease as it seems your case is isolated. Next thing would be to question if there is an environmental problem or some disease. I think for the time he belongs in a QT tank so he can be observed.

That link is pretty good as it has a wide list of diseases with associated pictures. Good luck and keep us updated.

have looked at him very closely and can see no sign of disease. He is swimming somewhat normally, he did eat about an hr ago it's just his gill rate is at least twice what it should be. hmm

ok it's been a few hrs he is happy as can be in my fuge, has calmed down and looks great so not sure what my next move is. There must be something in my display freaking him out big time so I may have to sell my pair of clowns. I guess in a day or so I can move the other clown into my fuge and see if they get along..

Good to hear. I suppose the best plan for right now is just get him plump and happy until you are ready to return him to the main tank.
