pair question please help!

i have (what i thought was) a pair of clown fish and a rbta. only one is in it and wont let the other in? if they are a pair do they always live together? im worried because i really want a pair and i have the chance to switch for a smaller juvi one if they arent but i dont want to if they are indeed a pair. the male was the first to take to it and he wont let the female in. they fight and he twitches towards her like they do to show dominence but still not together. its still kinda small so he fits in there comfy but the two of them would be crowding it. is that why? im so confused as to what to do?? please help!

can you post a pic? maybe the anemone is too small for two clownfish?

The anemone doesn't look big enough for both of them. It's a little odd that the male (smaller of the pair), is chasing the female away from it. It seems it should be the other way around. Does the female host something else?

Like "jkrentz2515" said, that anemone isn't big enough for one, let alone for two clowns. I would keep an close one on it. If you notice it starting to go down hill will have to do something to keep the clowns away from it until it gets bigger. Ideally the anemone should be 2-3 times the size of the clown -- and even bigger for a pair.

no the female doesnt host anything. the male used to "host" my clove polyps then he moved to the nem. yes it is small its been doing fine hes pretty gentle and he bounces back and forth between the polyps. i actually didnt think he would take to it that fast or at all by what ive read about them hosting these- 50-50 shot. i guess that means i should trade out one for the juvi. is it ok to keep the one that has found the nem and introduce a juvi as long as it is smaller? they will pair he will let it in? i dont want to keep the female just because she isnt in the nem and im not sure if she will take to it?

Not necessarily -- half the time my mated pair of Clarkiis "sleep" separately.

You know, they might not be a true pair but more of "friends of convenience" LOL j/k

Edit: Is mated in industrial terms or do you actually mean spawning. Nowadays many of the 'mated' pairs are simply what they called 'sold as paired up' pairs.

The only time I use mated (( in reference to clowns )) is when they are actively spawning. My pair has been spawning for the last 6 years or so, and just laid a new patch two nights ago.

How do I get my clown to the anemone or my rose anemone to host the clown?

i didnt do anything mine just checked it out then the next thing i knew he was in it! i heard of people putting pics on their tanks of a clown in one or waiting till the lights went out and coaxing it near it with their net. most i hear is "give it time"
