Paired Oscellaris need anemone?

Someone is breaking down a tank and is getting rid of a pair of oscellaris clowns. I was thinking of buying them but I do not have an anemone, and not sure if I want one in my tank. Is it unfair/unhealthy to keep clowns w/out a host?

They will be fine without an anemone. I had a pair of ocellaris for over two years and they never took to an anemone. They would sleep near the sand in a cave or behind the rocks. If they are use to having a host they'll just adopt the rocks, sand or soft corals you have.

Clowns do just fine without anemones in captivity, there's absolutely no need to buy one.

In fact, the natural anemone hosts of ocellaris are particularly hard to keep. Only the most brave and experienced aquarists here have been successful.

I hope you enjoy your new fish! All a breeding pair of clowns needs is a flat surface somewhere to lay their eggs on.
