pairing a Maroon Clown

I wasn't going to worry about finding mate for my Maroon Clown. I had heard they frequently just beat up other maroons added to the tank.

But.. I think having a pair + a BTA would be awesome.. so.. looking for some advice.

Right now the Maroon is about 2 inches long, still quite young I'd guess. Should I get a larger one that would likely be a female? or should I wait till the LFS gets in a smaller one and mine gets a bit bigger?

for the BTA here are my thoughts, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm going to add it before I put any SPS in the tank in hopes that it finds a place it likes and doesn't move. Then I wont have to worry about the BTA stinging my expensive Acro's.

Well, I would try to get a smaller clown, and put it in a breeders box in your tank to gauge how they are going to react to each-other, let them see each-other for a couple of days, if all looks good release the smaller one into the tank and watch them for a bit and see how it goes.

With the BTA... there is no guarantee that it is not going to ever move. I have had one be in the same spot of months and just decide to wander... stinging everything in it's path. But yes I would add the anemone before the SPS and hope for the best!

Hope this Helps!

Use my method. Put the smaller clown in container with a hold just big enough for it to swim out.. it will swim out when it doesn't feel threatened. I used a 2 liter soda bottle. My large 3.5" loves my new 1" clown to death. The one inch is even trembling submissively.

Get the smallest new one you can find. Mine were too close in size and they really went at it for a few days. Now their fins are healed and seem to be happy.
