pairing a maroon with a tomatoe?

I had a pair of mated and producing tomatoe clowns for 3 months, and I am upset because i have never lost a fish in 2 years. But my Female disappeared the other day. I thisnk the coral banded shrimp got her. I was wondering though, could I buy a Marron cloen and put in the same 90 Gallon tank? would they pair up? would they get along?

No one knows. If you do try it, I would use a very young maroon.

I would think in order for it to work you would have had to introduced them into the tank at the same time at a very young age, these two being the only clowns in the tank. I also think they would both have to be captive raised clowns, not wild caught. Once a clown has paired with ot's own species, I doubt it would pair with an outsider, especially a clown of another species. Personal experience for example; I have a female Convict (very prolific and will cross-breed with any CA/SA cichlid) who was paired up and reared fry with her mate on a regular basis. I introduced a replacement mate for her when her mate died, didn't work. She has killed off any CA/SA cichlid I have put in there for her, well any inhabitant I have tried to introduce period. I'd try to get another Tomato, a smaller one preferred. If you were to attempt another clown of a different species, atleast attempt something a little more similar, like a Cinnamon.

ok i say get a small maroon and try it.

just be prepared for the worst.

instant ocean hatcheries i believe did a few maroon tomatoe crosses and all there fish were wild caught and i believe a few had been previously paired with a mate of the same species.

it all depends on the individual fish.

so just give it a try and give us updates on it.

i think ive seen a wild caught maroon tomatoe cross, cant remember were exactly it was at a store though.

My GSM and B&W have been gettin along pretty well.

The B&W's been in there for 1 1/2 years, probably mated with an occelaris (plain) about 8-9 months ago. They ignored my GBTA for a month, and I got bored with my tank as a whole.
It was tough, but I gave the occelaris away, and ended up with the GSM a little over a week ago. He hosted, got my B&W to host, and now my tank is much more interesting to me.
Sometimes you just have to try it and see what happens. Every fish and situation is different tho, so make sure you can monitor them, esp in the beginning stages

and let us know what happens.

I've seen the Maroon/B&W Ocellaris crosses (cocoa clown), those were captive reared parent clowns from captive breeding, the B&W false percula is a dead giveaway. I've seen the saddleback/sebae clowns too. Anything can happen and anything is possible, take a chance, find out and tell us about it.

It would be interesting to see if it would work, may as well try. But when pairing them definitely pair with a small young maroon. And properly acclimate them to each other. Use a plexiglass divider or anything that keeps them apart but they can see each other. That way they can establish a relationship before being together and the smaller maroon won't be at immediate risk of being killed by the tomato.

I would try putting the small maroon in a critter keeper inside the tank until you stop seeing much aggression from the tomatoe. kind of the same thing gig em said but slightly different approach. This really helped us when pairing our occelaris (I know they are supposed to be docile but our black occelaris beat our orange occelaris to the point that all it could do was lay on the bottom.
