well i got two TR Bangai cardinals a couple months back, they do not school at all and are very rarely seen near each other. I assume that i got two males or two females. I would really like to get them to spawn, what is the best way to get a pair? Keep adding a couple until they hang out together and remove the rest?

It would help your odds of getting a pair if you added at least 2 or 3 more. When you start noticing some with tattered fins, then you likely have a pair. As soon as you notice this, though, try to identify the pair and isolate them. A pair formed in this manner can (and often do) make short work of other Banggais in the tank.

Not sure if I know whay you mean by tattered fins? Would a pair constantly be side by side? The two I hav e now are barely near each other and at most they chase each other around, safe to assume this is not a pair?

Yeah they probably aren't a pair. My pair does hang out around each other and they don't ever chase each other around. Chris meant that if you get 3 cardinals, and then you notice that one of the 3 is getting "beat up" and has messed up fins, then you probably have a female and two males which are fighting over the female. (correct me if i'm wrong chris)

ahhhh, got you now. Can you have one male and several female? or will the established pair knock off the other males as well as females?

Thanks ShilohPSU - I was indeed referring to other Banggais getting beat up. Sorry for the confusion xxxbadfishxxx. Regarding who is doing the attacking, I've heard it both ways. Some have reported the male as the aggressor. With my pair, it's definitely the female who is the aggressor.

just pray that if you get them to spawn the male doesn't eat the eggs or fry. this happens usually on the first spawn and sometimes it's repeated.
