Pairing Clarks

So I have a Clark I want to try and pair up.
I've had it since March, it was already about an inch long, hasn't really grown at all.
Most people/places i've looked at said to start out with a small juvenile clark so they both dont try and dominate each other.
is that really the best way and are there any easy ways to go about it other than just putting them in the same tank together?

make sure the clark you get is much smaller than the one currently in your tank. The one in your tank is probably female by now from being alone. Any new little guy you add will be dominated by her and will remain male... Any fish that is the same size might be female and could prove fatal if the two are mixed... bottomline, go with a much littler clark and you should* be fine.

if it is still ~ inch and did not grow rapidly at some point, it should not be female anyway.
