Pairing existing female Clarkii

I currently have a 4" female Clarkii Clown in my 135g FOWLR and I would like to find her a mate. I asked one of the better LFS around to get me a Juvi Clarkii so I can attempt to pair my female.

I usually QT everything for 4-6 weeks before adding to my display so my question is will the juvi Clarkii change during that time period? I am going to have a goby in the QT at the same time but its a 29g so they should be fine.

Thanks for any help!

It could if its really not a juv. its a risk either way, I say buy a CB clarki and take your chances with the no qt. I just did the same thing and I would introduce your little guy much like a Maroon pairing just in case the large female is aggressive like mine was. Mine girl is a beast though.

not sure what you mean about doing it like a Maroon pairing, will have to do some research into that.

As for no QT I had bad experiences in the past with no QT so what I might do is QT for a short period just to be sure.

Thanks for the help!

your better off not QTing for a short time.. just more stress to the fish.. IMO if your fish are healthy, i wouldnt worry about it.. i have not ever QT'd a fish..no problems..If its CB less to worry about, i would def. worry about a WC one though..

introduce male in a jar to see intial reaction of female

ahhh, got it. I actually have a large egg crate box that I use when adding a new fish to the tank. I found it very useful when I would add aggressive fish (triggers/puffers) when I used to have the tank stocked that way.

Thanks for they help, I will look into getting a CB Clarkii.

a 2 week QT should be plenty of time to make sure everything is ok and still keep it from changng sex
