Pairing Maroon Clowns

I don't see why this wouldn't work with 2 same size clowns. I see that being big = being dominant, but I want to buy both clowns when they are very small so I can watch them grow up. I also can't just buy one and wait for it to grow larger, I just don't have the patience for that. How 'bout buying 2 small ones and let one dominate the tank and keep the other in the container. Will the tank-dominant one end up female then?

i let him out! i opened container, tilted it sideways and he swam right towards her by brain. he has done the flicking and shaking when she gets close giving him occasional "love nips". don't look like she's hurting him at all, just showing him who's boss. they seem ok so far. smaller 1 not fighting back at all, just ficking if anything. big 1 is 3X larger than small 1. when purple tang came close a few times checking him out, the larger clown got in between smaller 1 and PT, kinda like saying that's my bi*ch, beat it. we'll see...

oh man that is great glad it worked for you
Random aquarist you can buy two small clows from a tank that has a bunch of small clowns and they will pair just try and pic a small one and a big one the size difference helps so they dont get confused and start to fight

My good friend bought both of her percs at the same time, both roughly the same size, and they've paired up just perfectly...well...kind of...they don't fight, and one has clearly become larger than the other, but they're not as "affectionate" as I've seen other pairs be. They're still young, though.

they're chillin together all day, in, under and around brain. small 1 eating too and dealing w/ high flow w/ no prob. thanks GSMguy for talking me into using the container...not sure it would have turned out w/out it.

no maroons are tough glad you did it it really works alll the people who dont have luck break the cardinal rules which are just dropping them in together and not obeying the difference in size
its not just maroons the worst clownfish meeting i ever saw was a friend of mine who has a reef had a false perc for 8 months in the same tank no changes and he just dumped in a small one and he just attacked the smaller one dragging it around we took it out and back to the store if i had known about this before that we would have a happy pair im 100% sure

can adding another pair of clowns, say snowflakes or regular percs, work using the container method. i would love another pair but not sure if that's possible, although i know someone on another forum has 8 clowns in a 225. i only have a 92 corner.

i have my maroons in my 20l and my onyx in my 50 looks like you need another tank to house more clowns
they always when kept in groups kill off the weakest one until you are left with 2 clowns give any multi clown system like the 225with 8 clowns enough time and you will be in trouble
has to do with sexing and changes in sex causing trouble
also maroons are the ultimate killers like a mako shark a large male maroon clown can suck a snail from its shell for breakfast they are serious i would never put maroons with another clown
ive always dreamed of a clown reef but think i will need to go with a huge 400 gallon system and even then only have 2 pairs in seperate sides of the tank
