So let me just start by saying anemonefish aren't anything if not frustrating. So here is my dilemma. I recently recieved 2 rather large tricinctus from liveaquaria and quarantined both fish in the same 10 gallon with hypo salinity and copper.
After observing nothing but signs of good health I released the two fish into my display with a carpet anemone. As soon as they both found the anemone all hell broke loose! It ended with the lesser of the two left with missing scales and battered fins. Consequently I removed weaker fish back to the qt tank.
My question is this, do you think I may have 2 females that didn't show aggression before because they were more consumed with stress or was this just an innitial spat over the new anemone? I have since placed the beaten fish in a clear container back into the display to see how the dominant fish reacts. It appears that the dominant fish is still interested but showing no overt aggression. I'm quite confused.
