Pairing tricinctus

So let me just start by saying anemonefish aren't anything if not frustrating. So here is my dilemma. I recently recieved 2 rather large tricinctus from liveaquaria and quarantined both fish in the same 10 gallon with hypo salinity and copper.

After observing nothing but signs of good health I released the two fish into my display with a carpet anemone. As soon as they both found the anemone all hell broke loose! It ended with the lesser of the two left with missing scales and battered fins. Consequently I removed weaker fish back to the qt tank.

My question is this, do you think I may have 2 females that didn't show aggression before because they were more consumed with stress or was this just an innitial spat over the new anemone? I have since placed the beaten fish in a clear container back into the display to see how the dominant fish reacts. It appears that the dominant fish is still interested but showing no overt aggression. I'm quite confused.

Hard to say.I was going to get some from them, but didnt due to the size they had.I would say that you probobly have 2 females.IIRC,they only had some that were above 3 inches or so in size.If they are that size,I would bet female. But,before I give up,I would place the lesser one into a clear speciman cup, after he/she is better, and the see if they both show aggrstion toward each other through the cup.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing! It's weird the smaller one did the submissive twitching behavior I've seen performed by many of my male clowns but it doesn't seem to matter with this big gal, she is relentless.

I know tricinctus is not a very common species but has anyone had a similar experience with any of the clarkii type clowns? I'm just wondering if it is a waiting game or should I cash in my chips with these two fish and start the search for a new male.

maybe give the fish another 24 hours in the clear container next to the other. see how they respond and...release it again. you should know pretty quick how it will play out long term.

I know nothing about tricintus, but when I was pairing my big Clarkii female she beat up my little male pretty bad. I knew it was a juvi because I got it straight from a breeder and it was less than 1". It was rough for a while, but now they get along.

Hmm, well I tried reintroducing the lesser of the two fish back into my display with dispapointing results once again. I will begin the search for a new smaller male and be willing to sell or trade my extra fish as soon as it recovers from these recent events. If anyone knows of anybody with a small tricinctus that they would being willing part with please let me know.

Sorry about the pics they were the best I could get with my iPhone, but you can kinda see what they look like. I took those photos right before they started womping on each other. I was so happy at point:( anyways both fish are vibrant and healthy so again if anybody knows where I could find a male or two it would be mighty helpful.

I think its going to be hard to find a smaller one!JMO.I hope Im wrong but Ive never seen them smaller than 2-3 inches. But Im in Missouri not Cali or FL.So I dont know what else is really out there other than the one I buy on the net!

ive been hounding nick at rose city to bring some in for ever. he had a guy that was able to bring them in regularly...but, unfortunately hes quite lazy about it. maybe if you join me, we can nag him into bringing some in for us.
