pairing up duration?

There probably has been a post about this already but teh search function here always seems to be down. I have had an onyx clownfish in my tank for two months now. I recently got her a "friend" that is considerably smaller in the hopes that they would become "more than friends". Anyway, she's roughing the guy up quite a bit like she'll bite onto him and shake him back and forth..... He is doing that submissive thing where he shakes and she does let up every once in a while. My question is, how long should this "bullying" go on for? Thanks for any help.

Usually only takes a few days for her to let up some. There will always be some domainant behavior. I wouldn't worry about it unless he looks completely stressed. This means swimming funny either on the bottom or top, breathing heavily or gaping for air at the surface, or bleeding.

Assuming that they are both still juveniles (which is likely based on your description) there will likely be another "rough patch" in the relationship in a few months when the older fish matures.

so, um, if he's stressing, should i give up on the pairing up and move the guy?

EDIT: forgot to say "thanks for the reply" :)

Well, I can't find my new clownfish. I've picked up a few peices of rock hoping he'd be easy to find and scoop out to a safer place. Should i assume he hid somwhere and died? he was looking really beat up... :(
