Pairing up True Percs

Let's say that my LFS is getting a bunch of True Percs in. How would I go about pairing them up? If I just pick any two that is one larger than the other, will they do fine? The guy that works there said that I would have to find a mated pair and I was kind of questioning that idea. What do you guys think?

I think you should get the same size percs and they will assume there sexes when they figure out who the more dominant one is, then that one will grow larger and become the female.

I could be wrong though, just my 2 cents

Slakker is right. However the larger clown will normally beat up on the small guy for a week or so.... I always feel bad for the lil one but I just say to myslef...its nature..lol

go with one larger than the other to make ur life easier

When I bought my pair one was 1/4" and the other was maybe 3/8" and they never really fought, but were already acting a little like a pair at the store.

If you can find a tank with two little CB clowns in it already acting buddy-buddy, IME that's ideal, but any two clowns of differing size should pair up just fine.

If they are CB it is easier because they ussually are from the same brood... If they are juvies it is simple because any will do, but it is easier to start with the smallest and largest.

If they are not juvies it can be harder especially if they are from a different broods.

If they are WC it can be even more difficult.

I would always try larger and smaller though.

If it is a solo fish in a tank you can be certain it is a female if has been alone for a while... The hard part is getting males..
