Palm Coast Pawriffic Pets Terrible CS

Hey how's it going everyone? I've just recently moved to Palm Coast from orlando and i bought my first SW fish since being up here, i heard about a place called Pawriffic Pets. Checked it out, they had a few nice fish. Well they had a female Swallowtail Angel which had been eating and looked gorgeous. I proceeded to purchase the fish and brought it straight home and let it float and went back out to get lunch(maybe 30min total). I came back and the fish was dead. Not even out of the bag yet and the store air still in it. The fish had swam past an anemone while the LFS guy was trying to catch it, he swore it didnt touch. I can't imagine what else could've happened. I called them this morning as they were closed already yesterday. And flat out told me it was my loss and they weren't going to do anything about it. I've been in the hobby for over 10yrs and never have i had a problem with a store. and never have i had a fish not make it atleast into the tank. I even would've settled for 50% but they gave me nothing and proceeded to hang up on me. This was my horrible experience with this store and i wanted to share as a forewarning to anyone else that may decide to go there.

Sean I would never go there again. So they do not even have a livestock guarantee at all? That store is a shame. Were you able to at least speak to the owner or manager?

I have zero intentions of doing anything w/ that store but letting people know how terrible they are. It's a shame that place has the area on lockdown as far as anything saltwater. I do know theres something coming to Ormond Beach tho which i will absolutely make the drive. I supposedly spoke to a manager. After he hung i called back and let him know i'd be informing people of his bad practices and lack of business ethics. He really didn't seem to care.

No clue at this point, nor is there anything that makes it better. All i can do is spread the word. I've never been so disgusted w/ a place in my life.

Even without pure O2, the fish should live hours in a bag...he said thirty min, maybe of floating. Had to be that anem touching it. That sucks.

He didn't say how long it was in the bag before he floated it. He also left the bag sealed to float it, and under what kind of lights? I always open my bags to float them, and if it's a delicate fish that takes some time to acclimate, i turn out the lights.

I'm not going to defend the store, (they should have given him 50% credit just out of good bussiness practice), but just tossing a bag in to float under the lights without even opening the bag for gas exchange, and running off to have lunch isn't exactly the proper way to acclimate a fish, and especially a Swallowtail Angel. That bag sitting under strong lights with the top sealed, is like a convection oven, not to even mention how hot it is outside right now for the ride home.

the fish was in the bag a total of an hour. no lights, i've always floated in the sump. I've had a harem of swallowtail angels in the past never aproblem, had to sell as they got larger, and the 5 of them are still alive and well today. the biggest problem they have is damaged bladders from being brought up too fast, thats the only thing that makes them delicate. Marinecenter.com has a tendenacy to throw that "note" on any difficult to catch or find fish. no matter how hardy a fish maybe, which is why i never order from them. the car was cool, buddy was waiting inside, the tank never swings more then .3-.5 of a degree. If i saw a flaw in something i did, i'd not be so ticked. but i havent done anything different or out of the norm that i havent done in my 13yrs in the hobby.

bottom line the store handled my situation poorly and made matters worse when hanging up on me. And no where in the store is there anything posted about no guarantee or on the receipt, I brought the fish back and laid it in the bag w/ their air still in it on the counter and returned everything else i had bought. Thus i've taken the issue to my cc company.

To me its like a finding abarber, you find yourself a good one and stick with it. You obviously still have some looking to do.

Sure, from time to time I will be on one side of town or another and pop in a LFS, but 99% of my business goes to the LFS I like and trust. They know me there & anytime there is even a slight problem they take great care of me.

And give me deep discounts, even on rare peices, just because I am a regular shopper that supports them.
