i got some new palys, i tried feeding them whole small sized formula one pellets. the heads that got food shriveled up and turned from pastel teal to kind of brownish color. is that normal? if not was the size too big or should i be feeding them something different? ive read other posts about people feeding corals formula one fish food pellets

I feed my palys the pellets and have never seen this happen. They do close up for a while I have seen but usually open in a few hours in some instances. Most of mine open up right away after ingesting the pellet. Give them time and see what happens. Also, try crushing them up a lil and then spray them over the polyp.

yeah initially they closed up for a day or two, theyve started to open up and are looking less shriveled but they are still discolored, its probably been 3-4 days since i gave it to them

I would try to soak the pellets for like 10 min in tank water, before offering to the zoas. I've never tried intentionally to feed zoanthids Formula One Pellets, but some of them did get those pellets while I fed my fishes in the past. I've never experienced that before and it shouldn't be a big deal, I guess.
I never had polyps closing for a day or 2 just because of feeding them. They close for less than an hour normally.

Grandis.
