Panorama LEDs?

I have a bc29 and was wondering if the Panorama modules would be a good retrofit. And if so what would you recommend? Right now mostly have softies and LPS. I have a 150w MH but I think I am having uv issues. I can't put any coral really higher from the sand bed without it starting to close up. Even after I acclimated for 2 months.

I have the coral life clamp on fixture.

Thanks,

Mark

I would recommend a couple of the 12" modules to start, and then go from there. What kind of lamp have you been using in the fixture you have now?

It's very odd that was causing bleaching in there. There may have been something going on chemistry wise there. I would think that the a 2-3 of the Panorama modules would be equivelant to the 150w Phoenix in certain areas within the same size tank.

Not really bleaching just everything is closing up, zoas, mushrooms, GSP, Candy coral all seemed to close up unless they are on the sand bed and towards the front of the tank.

What combo do you think would give me somewhere between 14k-20k range? 50/50 and a actinic?

Yes, the 50/50 and actinic and would be the best bet to get to that point. If that's too blue than a couple of 50/50's would do the trick as well.

Just an anecdote:

I have four Panoramas packed in pretty tight (about .25" between them) over one side of my 19" tall tank (38 gal) and to my eye they're about as bright as the single 150 Radium that used to be there. Haven't had them up long enough to report results with the corals though.

Details:
  • Two strips didn't appear even close to my eye.
  • Radium 150's are HQI standard and on my HQI ballasts, they actually run brighter than standard 150's and they run at 170 watts. So my comparison may not be apples-to-apples.

Thanks for the feedback Matt! I really do think the Panorama's are a great LED option, which have a lot of capability with different corals!
