Panther Grouper and Feather Duster

I have no direct experience; but groupers will eat any fish or invert they can. This grouper will be 3-5" for about a week, they grow incredibly fast. How big is his home tank?

40 long, but I would definately not keep it when it gets bigger. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the panther grouper being 3 inches for a week... Its not like it grows a half inch a week. How fast do they grow?

Panther groupers grow a fast as any fish I've ever kept. This fish will outgrow a 40L in a few months; if it hasn't already. IMO, any 5" fish is really too big for your tank; and this grouper won't stay 5" for long. LA suggests a 300 gal minimum for an adult. I'd re-home/return this guy ASAP. If its any consolation; the adults aren't nearly as interesting as juvis---their heads look 6 sizes too small.

MrTusk is right. Panther grouper grows far too large and active for almost all home aquariums. It will reach over 20" easily and is really only suitable for public aquariums of near 1,000g or more (Liveaquaria's 300g recommendation is too small). I cannot comprehend why LFS (even petco) would sell this fish. Most of the specimens sold are only 3-4", small and cute, but this guy will grow into a monster very fast.

You should rehome this guy asap as keeping him in a 40g is severely stunting his growth and increasing his stress level.

I never said i owned the fish yet haha, but i decided not to get one. I found an awesome zebra dwarf lion that is more suitable for me and is better looking

You know, when researching a possible fish, there are many good sources available. A lot of folks took time giving help that really should involve the hobbyist. There is an entire 'sticky" thread on these fish at the top of the aggressive fish section of the RC forum. You'll get a lot of conflicting opinions if you use a forum as a decision making source, IMO. I'd suggest using the forum when you really need experiences and opinions when you need to make a decision; basic research on a forum (which is all opinion) can really lead to problems. Would you have bough this fish if someone said "'sure, a grouper in a 40 is a great idea!"?

There were no other threads about about panther grouper and feather duster compatibility, and no i wouldnt have gotten it bc the zebra dwarf is a lot cooler
