pappone and BLU Coral method

I think it's fair to ask for pics. A lot of people give advice on things and talk of great success and never show it. This is a computer. Child predators claim to be kids themselves. A guy on a muscle car forum has 3 screwdrivers and a broken lawn mower in his garage, but on a computer, he tells you how to rebuild an engine. If it's working as some say it is, a before and after picture will show that. People who ask for proof are just trying to do good research. I'm sure you guys heard what happened on the ZEO forum when the guru posted pics.
People using this method and are experiencing PO4 issues simply do not have an export system which could handle this method. As was mentioned before, any food you add to your tank has the potential to raise PO4. Don't blame the method... it's YOU.
I'm using very small amounts of pappone. Less than 3ml once or twice a week. I don't think I'm using enough to effect on my growth or color. Here are pics. first is Dec '06, the next is April '07 and the third is last week. I used a different camera for that photo and haven't quite figured it out yet, so not much I can do about the washed out look. Those are also new t-5's on the third shot that was not in the previous 2. My water is clearer and my nutrients are lower now than they have ever been.

You hit it right on the nose. I am just doing research no need to get hostel lol

thanks for the pics I can clearly see growth in your pics also. I also see you have a sand bed :D

well I Right now I am in the process of taking my tank down and redoing the plumbing. I will join this method soon. I will also post before after pics wish me luck

Roxy... I'm agreeing with you. 100%. No need to kick me in the nuts!:eek1:
I'm also not comparing a reefer to a child predator. I'm just saying people aren't always who they say they are. People who boast great success should back it up with some pics.
hell yeah I have a sand bed.

I am done with this thread. This is becoming ridiculous.
Let me make sure I have this right... you post a pic of an orange monti capnella for proof of growth, I show a FTS and NOW the thread is ridiculous?
You made it a joke when you posted a monti cap. I grew those in a refugium with a shop light.
Reefers have every right to ask for proof and they should. There are people who successfully keep green star polyps and now consider themselves experts and post like they've been there and done that. Reefers believe everything they hear and nothing they see.
I don't have the best tank. Around here, I'd go so far as to say my tank actually sucks. But at least I'm backing up my statements, and going through the thread, they are pretty well on line with everything you say.
Now that there is some show of growth it has gotten ridiculous... that's just beautiful. I can back this up with purple monster and purple bonsai growth. You show a monti cap.

Sick aquascaping man! How come I havent seen this tank before dangit? Do you have a thread on it..I would love to see and know more.

Not a hijack at all. Chris has one of the best sps tanks in NY.
He is a mentor to anyone that is willing to listen AND he backs up what he says with photos and documentation. Chris give yourself some credit.

just curious for more investigation into the italian's usage, anyone know an italian reef forum?

check out ReefItalia.net

However, Invincible and I pretty much picked their brains for a couple months! I literally had someone show me how to make it when I was there, so it was a lot of fun meeting up with fellow reefers there.

Chris: You're right and are saying exactly what I've been trying to convey towards the people that don't use proper dosages-->if you can't export the nutrients, you're going to have a problem.

I think it's pretty cool how your sand got cleaner as those photos progressed. Dunno if that is incidental or not. I like that trigger too!

ya i did a bit of searching and went to reef italia, unfortunately my iltalian is lacking, but google translator sufficed, i think tank was translated as bathtub, it was amusing seeing everyone's 'bath tubs'. Basically it said what's been said here, watch out for the phosphates that comes along with adding the food, watching water chemistry and such, it talks about growth hormones but that part was translated poorly and couldn't get the whole gist, but all in all this thread is quite good, and there's not reason to complain about asking for growth shots, though things really shouldn't change much between tanks here and in italy

yeah I don't know what happened to the old thread since it got un-stickied, but if you have any questions, I can probably answer them or ask anyone over there for you.

I was wondering if anyone noticed the sand bed. Thanks for the compliments. Not sure if it can be tied in. I really don't count anything towards the pappone since I dose such a small amount.
Thanks Ken. I try to help.
I love hearing people call it a phosphate bomb. It's grinded shell fish. Of course it's going to up PO4. Everyone who I hear bash it also admits to dosing much more than they should have or add it to a tank that it doesn't belong in in the first place. That would be on you, not the method. If you are dosing this stuff to a newly set up tank with nothing more than an ASM G-3 skimmer, like someone I know, you are going to have issues with it. It's not rocket science.

We are planning to start using this on our 380g tank, hopefully starting within the next week or so, after we get our new skimmer broken in. So, do you think that this will be sufficient for our nutrient export needs (to use the pappone method) ?

I know it's no ASM G-3, but I think it will suffice :D (EDIT : We are still filling it in this picture... I didn't have enough make up water ready at the time to fill it all of the way before the picture was taken :D)

umm, it is over 6'6", so it is even taller than an un-average person :). I am 6' and it is at least a half a foot taller than me (if you count the collection cup, etc :)

EDIT : So when are you coming up to visit and check out our tank ?

Whoa sparks, I'm going to have to see that skimmer in person, thats nuts! It looks like the one I saw running at the Waikiki aquarium. I bet you could hide a dead body in the tank and it would skim it all a way (not that I am suggesting anything!). Let's not give Tony Soprano any ideas haha.

hehehehe, Tony doesn't need any help in that department :D. Once we get everything up, running and stabilized you are more than welcome to come visit. Then I can pick your brain in person about pappone, etc :). Have you been following our tank build thread by chance ?

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=990537

Hopefully we can use some of the pictures in taht thread for before, and then after in a couple of months once we start using pappone on a regular basis :). We have seen the 2 components of the food used separately, with great success (dosing sugar and using DIY food). We have only personally tried the second of those two, and that with great success ourselves. We are anxious to add the suguar "to the mix", pardon the pun :).
