PAR for SPS

Hard to answer because there are alot of variables but if you go with 200+ you should be good

+1

anywhere between ~200 and ~600 is good.. though 600 is getting to the "a little toasty" range if things arent acclimated to that much light.

Ya, I know it's very broad question but thanks for the input. I just got a PAR meter and up top I'm at around 500 and towards the bottom, I'm about 200. On the sand, in the middle i'm around 190 and off to the sides I'm at 120 or so. I'll post a picture with my results

Hi,

Most people think SPS and say, lets blast them with as much light as possilbe. I found 200-400PAR covers most SPS i've tried. I played around moving colonies and found some actually like it better with less light, 150-200PAR, and coloured up really nice.

This article is really great as it lists the saturation point of many SPS (notice the saturation point of most is 200-350PAR, probably less than most expected). Look at the table at the bottom of the link

If you are keen for a read i started a tread on Lighting wavelenths some time ago. I learned a lot.

150+ you can keep sps perfectly

at around 600 your pushing it without the proper aclimation

150 and lower you can keep lps, softies Zoa's and really anything else

and i don't think any of the lower light corals do good with less than 20 par

Here are my numbers. It's a 8x54 watt ATI PM hung 8" above the surface of the water. All PH and pumps are on.

with 400 watt Radiums on Galaxy Ballsts, I have 300-400 par levels everywhere in the tank from the sand to the top of my corals which are around midpoint high. They have never looked or grown better...........
