PAR Meter

The club should get one and allow members to borrow it with a deposit - just in case it they break it.

It has been discussed numerous times over the years. In the end, the interest to PITA ratio has not been favorable. I don't think anybody is against it for any reason, it just never got any traction. To that end, there are (or were) several club members willing to loan them out, in fact I can't remember who has mine... I have not seen it in 2+ years.

The purchase would take a vote (based on the cost and need to create sign-out rules). If there is interest, somebody should bring it up at the next club meeting.

LOL - Good point Bean. Hence the issue- PEOPLE. I hate lending out something and then it never returns and by the time you realize your missing it you cant remember who you lent it to.

It was just a thought- certainly reasonable decision on the clubs part - due to the PITA scenario.

What I do in my club is that I go over with the Par meter and help the club member make the readings. It is a much better way of doing it than just lending out a meter. Most people don't really under stand the use and it helps you get to know a club member and they will more likely want to come to meetings and get involved.

zelie-dad - no you can be a guest a few times I think- but then are "encouraged to join". It is $25 bucks a year - so if you get a frag or 2 from members - that pays for itself quickly. I am not on the board nor do I hold any leadership position - so don't hold me to that. I just got back into the hobby 6 -8 months ago and I am going by my memory - which isn't what it used to be- LOL.

Reefwiser - Yes that does sound like a great way to do it- but you would need someone willing to do that - and they would have to have the knowledge that you have. Not sure we have that option currently.

When I signed up I thought about it, then went for the lifetime membership. Only 125 and I don't have to think about anymore. With the discounts at LFS's you'll make it back in no time. I saved 48 bucks on the tank I just ordered.

Do we still get 10% off at elmers with them membership

In reference to the PAR meter there are a few options coming out now as plugins for Apex controllers that are disguised as rocks that are much more affordable. BRS has them I think.

Yes the thread took a bit of a drift, which is no big deal, I should try and attend a meeting at some point anyhow.

I was looking at the new apogee one that you just plug into a laptop basically, the price seemed decent. Just thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone was lending one out.

Reefwiser probably has the right idea though, that way the tool doesn't go out on permanent loan.
