PAR or bust

Well here was the idea...
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1335949

And a few people at the meet still sounded interested, so lets see how much we can pool together.

Lets start at $10 each and see where that brings us, with full understanding of the above threads concerns, I think that $10 is an acceptable amount to possible lose.

I understand there is a lot of concern for the whereabouts of a shared item like this, and if you have more, please post them in that thread, this one is more for the ones who accept that one and just want to get the PAR or bust!

Im in for $10

total: $10

I'm in for $10 or $20.

I checked into the break-age insurance again to answer some questions people had @ DFS.

As an example: If I schedule it on my policy there is worldwide coverage on that item. So if it's on my policy and I loan it out to Brian and he breaks it, it is replaced by insurance with a $0 deductible.

Of course, all insurance companies are different, so whoever puts up the money for this thing and 'owns' it should check with their current agent. See the other thread for prices. Any questions or comments, please feel free to chime in.

so what actual piece of equipment are you targeting to buy?

Havn't given it any thought, we will see if we get enough intre$t, otherwise the one you posted looked good.

If you are getting a PAR and not a lux and we get enough to do it, i'd chip in $10.

If you don't come anywhere close to the amount need to purchase it, i'm going to buy one of my own. I'd be willing to front up most of the cost, but might have a few different ground rules than the way bri guy is suggesting it.

I'll throw in $10.

Once we get it, an idea I had was having a PAR Meter Sign-out thread, and whenever it changes hands, we post who has it. That way all of us can see who has it at all times.

I would also like to suggest, if it gets broke, then we are all just out $10. Not a big deal. It's probably going to break eventually getting passed around so much. You can't blame the unlucky guy who happenned to have it when it decided to quit working. But if someone actually LOSES it, then maybe we should say they have to buy a new one. Then no one can try selling it or something and say they "lost" it.

All just ideas I'm throwing out there.

Bri,
Seeing as the thread title is PAR I am going to assume you will be looking at a PAR meter and not a LUX.
That being said I would also be in for $10 for a PAR meter, that is if due to my distance away you even want me in this deal.
With fuel getting the crazy price it is I would be better off shipping it back up to the next person who wants it than drive.

Limpit, my thoughts are that there will be a mad rush where everyone wants the meter, then 3 months after everyone has checked out their lighting demand for it will die down. Then a random person will want it once a month or so after that (depending on how many people throw in for it...) I just planned on waiting until the mad rush was over and then taking it home after a meeting. That or hosting a meeting and getting my tank read at the meeting.

PCR,
Ya, I am in no hurry for it either, actually it might work out great for me to get it from you when you are finished with it. I am in Waupun sometimes for my work.

Lisa, I will probably be selling a frag also to get the money to donate for this, unfortunately the place we buy this from won't accept frags, so you will have to sell one and donate the profits to the pool.

Ron, Yes this would be a PAR meter, it seems that a few already have the Lux, and it isn't as specific with the measurements, so its PAR or bust.

PCR, if you want to look into insuring it, that would be great, but I wasn't thinking of doing anything like that with it.

Bill, Hopefully this goes through, otherwise im open to suggestions to how you would run the ship.

Looks like we are around the $80 mark, so a bit to go, but defiantly interest.

For those who might want in, but don't know what you are getting in too, its a meter that would tell you when you lights are going bad, and helpful for finding light/shade spots in your tank, for best coral placement.

i would get in too but i think distance and the fact i only get to make 5-6 meeting a year kinda cuts me out, but then again like ron said there is always USPS so as long as i would get to play with it a couple times a year i would be in
