PAR recommendations for Ric yuma

hi there,

i'm interested in finding out how much PAR is needed for Ric yuma optimum growth/health. is there any sites out there that have any info on the above? i have a apogee par meter in the mail and interested in providing optimum conditions in my ric yuma tank.

thanks

Jason

anyone?

i have a par reading of 80 at the moment and guessing this is too low, can anyone recommend a good par value to aim for?

cheers

jason

thanks logzor, i have them under 8 T5's but the unit is about 10 inches from the water, the par is 150. don't really want to raise par any higher than this.

colour has improved dramatically with the T5 over the powercompacts

IME it depends on the yuma, and what they are used to. I've kept them in my tank under T5 and 250w MH. Most of them seem happier under the T5, but I have a couple of gold ones that don't seem to mind the MH. I think acclimating them to the light is most important. Most of my yuma's are in a 40B under 4 24"T5's. The light fixture is 2" above the water, and the yuma's are about 12" deep. I have a few others in my 120, 2x250MH 14K Pheonix bulbs 8" above the water, and the yuma's are about 20" down. Hope this can help you out some.

When I switched from PC to T5 it just about fried my yumas.

i could have done that too as 8 T5's versus 2 pc's is a big jump, i raised my light way up high and monitored PAR readings to work out how much to lower it.

i would love to put my PAR meter next to your rics and see what they are getting, but i'm quite a way away.

i agree, it definately depends on the yuma and what it is used too, acclimation to the light is an expensive mistake if not done properly. great advice.

i have seen them under 250w in about 20-24 inch of water, but they were bright reds/pinks so really depends on the individual coral.

as some t5's punch out more than others the PAR reading is a good indicator of the light they are recieving, its just a shame that these units are not cheap enough for everyone to own them, i just bought one in a group buy with my local Australian Marine aquarium Society so savings were a good excuse to buy one.
