Paracentropyge multifasciata

Diver's Den had a Paracentropyge multifasciata that was eating frozen mysis and brine shrimp. Does anyone know what trick DD does to get these finicky fish to eat prepared foods? Or is it hit and miss depending on the individual fish?

Drs. F&S DD are excellent. If it is on DD, it is definitely eating and is normally an outstanding example of the species. Kevin is one of the best fish keepers in this country.

Ya there is a reason it sold at 4:26 when the DD email went out at 4:30 :D

That is a very tough question to answer with the simplicity it seems you are looking for. Every fish is different and can have different stress reactions to shipping, diseases, dietary requirements, and care requirements.

For the angel though, many foods needs to be offered and they should be presented in different ways, the foods should be able to be easily consumed if the fish were to try to eat them, also environment is a huge factor, attention to water quality, ability to identify and treat for diseases, and there are more factors, but attention to detail is huge like I said before. Some fish are finicky because the... get food, put in tank, and leave option doesn't always work.

I like how copps puts it: there are no angelfish that are hard to keep, but only those that are hard to adapt, or something along those lines.

Like Tim said, it's the simple things like placing a fish in it's own QT, being careful to give it lots of attention (watching out for illness), a good environment best suited to the individual species. And a good bit a patience.

I'm sure some of it is a number's game as well. It's very doubtful that was the only Multi LA has received, or any they do receive they automatically get feeding and goes up on DD. I'm not taking away anything from the folks at LA/DD, they are probably the best on the planet. But what you probably don't see is the attempts by LA/DD that haven't worked.

Ya of course that is true. You can only control so many variables and even LA is dependent on the quality of the specimens they get from their collectors.

That was the other part I should have added. If anyone has a good connection to get healthy Multi's, it would be LA/DD!

Actually, Kevin (LA/DD) pays his suppliers more for the premium specimens which show up on DD. I am not talking out of school because this was on an old post of Kevin's on the RC forum. Of course this incents the suppliers to sell to Kevin first. Money has a strange way of doing that.

I have always Loved the Mutifasciata. Im thinking of trying a Trio soon. I know it will not be easy, but if i can pull it off, I'll be very happy!!!

So there is no real trick to it. Kevin at DD probably loses a few finicky fish too until he comes across one that happens to start eating?

I had one, looked healthy, placed in QT with live rock. I tried live black worms, live brine shrimp, frozen mysis, rotifers, cyclops, fish roe, arctic pods, etc, etc....never would eat anything. I was just afraid I was doing something wrong, in that others could get theirs to eat and I couldn't.

I put various food in with the angel and sat and watched it for a good while, but that didn't help. :) What else can be done after putting the food in with the fish? I am thinking I should have brought out the whips and fin screws :)

Looks like you covered your bases pretty well. One thing that can help too, is if you have a tank, like a 20 gallonish, if you filter it with a sponge filter, have a little live rock or live rock rubble and lots of macro algae... the pods that will grow in that style of tank are usually good for finicky fish too. Plus if you keep the sides of the tank dirty many fish will graze on the algae growing in the tank as long as it isn't getting covered in cyano or something of the sort.

How's that, isn't everyone suppose to have an equal chance at buying from DD?

Everyone does. You need to have the sign in check out system setup, be signed in and hitting refresh every 5 seconds. You need to also be able to complete your purchase in less than 30 seconds probably.

The DD update email seems to go out anywhere from 5-10 minutes after the page has actually been uploaded though. The really choicest stuff is gonna be gone before then though.
