Part I is now in the tank. I found a Pistol Shrimp in the sediment and threw it in the tank. It was about 1/2" long and greenish in color. There was a large gorilla crab (at least 2" across!) in the sediment and it went into the sump with its mantis shrimp buddy who was no small fry either!
I used cold selzter water in a turkey baster to purge some of the holes in the rock and for every 5-6 gorilla crabs flushed I also flushed 3 red mithrax crabs and a decorator
c'est la vie. there is a green mithrax about the size of a thumbnail that managed to survive the ordeal as did a small red mithrax.
In the sand was the most awesome sea cucumber! Not to mention the brittle stars and shrimp that were discovered. The whelks ended up in the sump with the gorilla crab and pal.
The rock is covered with all kinds of life! There was one of my divemaster candidates here at the shop when I was unpacking the rock. He has a 120G saltwater and kept exclaiming over the amount of algae growing on the rock Richard sent.
Can't wait for Part II . . .will post pics tomorrow.
