Part of history....

So as most of you know I work for the Baltimore PD. We can work the Orioles games as overtime assignments. Saturday I had the luck of drawing the bullpen area. Its kinda cool because your out there with the players and you get to watch the game. Little did I know I was going to be a part of history. The hottest prospect in baseball, Matt Weiters, was called up Friday to make his major league debut. He did not get a hit Friday but then came Saturday and my ugly mug got to be part of history. (not that you can see it real clear but you can figure out where I am) Sure makes me wish I would have dropped the 20 pounds over the winter.

Very cool, could you tell it wasn't going to make it over the fence? or can't you go for a HR ball being on duty, that would have been really something if he would have smacked a homer on his first MLB hit. Have a good one copper.
Matt

you should have pulled out your piece and dropped it like a clay pigeon. You would have been even more famous

You should have reached over and snagged it. You'd be even more famous!

Your not kidding. I would have been famous and fired. If it would have came within arms reach, you bet I would have caught it. I picked the ball up off of the bat as soon as he hit it. It was headed straight for me but lost steam. I actually thought their outfielder was going to catch it.
That assignment is actually a pain in the butt....or should I say foot. We are not allowed to interact with the players unless they speak to us first. Also, I was informed by the assignment commander I was not allowed to lean on the railing leading out of the bullpen. "I mean, you can rest your hip up against the rail and you don't have to stand on the cobblestones", is what I was told. Gee thanks! So you basically stand still for upwards of 8 hours with no break. There is a bathroom out there but that's it. The players and grounds crew actually do look out for you and offer you water or Red Bull. I would still work it if asked. Its one of the best seats in the house.

Hey, Copper. Can you get us any good tickets? It's been a while since I've been to a game. I'll be willing to get you water. Maybe some fries, too.

By the way, StephenR, you need to get a new member in here if you don't like being funned at. I think Bobby was the go to guy for laughs before you showed up.
