Partial water changes

Hello everybody i was wondering what would be good to do a partial water change on a 180g tank. Also could you guys give me an idea on all of the abreviations. like sps. i not sure about the many that are out there. So can you help me im just a noob.

For water changes, just use any clean container. I have a couple of the big Instant Ocean buckets that I now dedicate to water changes.

I try to change about 10% of my water volume a month, but I also think that I'm on the lower end of the spectrum as I'm pretty lazy. I would guess a nice range would be 10 - 20% of your water volume for monthly changes.

On your situation, if you have indeed 180g I would do 10% of total water volume every month. Some folks change their water weekly and some do it biweekly. Some folks out there swears they never changed thier water but just add their topoff but I woud not recommend this at all. And some do it continous water change (about 1 percent of their water volume.
In your case that is 18gals but you have to consider the sump, refugium,frag tank water volume (if any) as well.

well thank you for all your help but what i was wondering is that what would be a good container thats bigger than a 5g bucket but thats smaller than a 55g rainbarrel

I do 5 gallons every Sunday, for a 150 gallon reef system. Everything growing great, I dose with C-Balance and Kalkwasser between water changes.

I have a 180 also, I use the 44 gallon Brute w/ wheels
