Particles Constantly in Water Column

I have a 90 gallon and am running the herbie method.

I constantly see small particles, looks like sand but all of my power heads are aimed upward away from the bottom of the tank. They are not all uniform in size and are definitely not air bubbles. This has been going on for weeks, I assumed the filter sock would take care of the problem but it hasn't. I am not sure if that is due to the sock itself or if these particles arent making it into the overflow or what.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

What kind of livestock do you have in the tank? If it's an ongoing problem my first thought would be that something is stirring your substrate up on a regular basis.

Probably something getting some of your sand.

We had the same problem just using the Jebaos on their stock controllers. After we hooked them up to the APEX and did some custom programs, it stopped...

interesting because i am using a jebao rw8 but only one for the entire tank. i am in the process of getting another. Why do you think that pump with the regular controller would be causing the problem, like how so? I have a reefkeeper so i am not sure if i could hook them up to that

6 pumps and in else mode they run at 100%...

Just too much going on. The new programs have very ramps and patterns, not nearly as hectic in the tank... but the flow is very nice.

I had this problem too when I was using 200 micron socks. Once I switched to 100 micron socks, it went away. But now I have to change the socks more often.

I really think the issue is that the particles are not getting into the overflow. Could I just place a back of filter floss in the DT for a day or so to help clear it up? Would this work?

I have the same issue. I've never been able to keep a glass clear water column like some of these people. Ever.

I've ran socks, no socks, carbon, no carbon. I don't worry about it anymore.

It's almost certainly a combination of things. When my pumps run higher I get more. When my filter socks get close to needing changed and are partially clogged I get water so clear it's like the fish are flying.

It's a combination of fine sand particles which will eventually improve and micro-bubbles which has more to do with how your sump is set up and how much surface agitation you have.
