I was on the USPTO website and was looking at patent 7,000,568.

I could not see why this was better than a Durso.

I looked at the patent information and noticed that this is the patent for AGA's version of the durso stand pipe. I couldn't load up the pictures of the patent, you need a plug in wich I don't have at work, but if I remember correctly their gimick is that the stand pipe is adjustabel up and down.

There are some holes in the elbow that draw in air and water - I just can't see the advantage of them being there.

Also, the mixing chamber. It seems the same thing could be achieved by putting some holes in the lower part of the standpipe resiviour, and forget the extra divider.

As indicated I haven't been able to load up the pictures which is definately easier then reading through the patent application. Is the mixing chamber part of the overflow? I have an AGA tank with a built in overflow, and I cant figure out why they have holes at the bottom with the divider, seems to desroy the point of surface skimming.

On the PTO site, click help, then choose "requirements to view images". There will be two free downloads. The top one was a PITA, I could not download it. The bottom one was a piece of cake & works real well, if you're interested.

Try doing a search for the make and model online to see if you can get some instructions or comments that will help you. You might also find the manufacturer's website that might have FAQ's or a number you can call for help or a new set of instructions. Good luck.

It is kind of ironic that Rich Durso comes up with the idea (actually, I guess it was suggested to him by a friend) and makes the information available for everyone to use. All-Glass then basically copies his idea, which is ok by itself- he didn't patent it. They then go on to patent their minor change as if it is something unique. It's an improvement on their old system. I just find it a bit ironic.
