Pattern help

Roger,

I need help with a good pattern for my tank.

My plan is to have 4 6105's in a 96 X 24 tank.

Right now I have two 6105's on order and plan to order two more in the near future. I was told they are back ordered. For now I can use a Koralia Mag 7

I do have an Apex controller I will be using with the Tunze pumps. I read the neptune forum and got my programming from there. (right side 10 minutes / left side 10 minutes)

I plan on keeping SPS, LPS, with a thin sand bed.

How would you recommend setting up 2 for now and then 4 for later?
How deep do I put them in the tank or how far off the bottom (which ever you prefer)

Thank you for your advice, it is much needed.

In general I would place them about a quarter to half of the way down from the surface with a slight upward angle. With two pumps, place one in each back corner aimed to hit the front about 2/3rds of the way down the tank, with 4 I would place all four facing a parallel angle equidistant on the back wall and run them sequentially so they come on in order- 1 then 1 and 2 then 1, 2 and 3 and finally 1,2, 3 and 4 and then back to one. Usually longer intervals are better, you want some turbulence but not so much, corals seem to adapt to feed based on current direction and if you change it up too much they don't do as well as they would at intervals in the rnage of 4-6 hours. The pumps that are on can be pulsed. In sequential operation you will probably want a time of about 1-5 minutes between extra pumps coming on but then all flow faces the same way, it just gets stronger.

I think 2 would do the job, I would start with 2 and if I added anything to 2 it would be a 6215 wavebox.

Roger,

is it possible to use the Tunze Wavebox Extension 6215.5 with the apex instead of the Tunze controller?

If the apex can switch a unit off and on in a range of .30-1.50 with hundredth of a second intervals possible, it will work.

Hi Roger,

If I went to a Wave box on this tank (240 gallon) what return pump should I use? Right now I have a Iwaki MD70-RLT and I want to get rid of it because it has so much extra plumbing through the wall and such.

Will two 6105 and a wavebox make enough water movement for SPS?

Thank you

The Apex would not be suggested to run a Wavebox. I used to think it might work but I found that others have tried it with poor results. The Apex only offers intervals in tenth of seconds and starts with .1 seconds. using 1 second and the 10x multiplier. From a couple of customers I have heard excellent reviews of the newer Tunze Wavecontroller 7092 .

The wavebox uses 6215.200, it is essentially a 6105 with 6205 prop and front cover.

As for a return, you could definitely downgrade, I think you will still need a larger pump but not as big as you have. I would take a look at the GRI pumps or maybe 2 1073.040 or 1073.050 if you can use them in sump or have two outlets for external pumps on your sump.

2 6105 and the wavebox should do the job.

I know Champion, Premium and Marine Depot all use to and likely still carry GRI, 1073.040 is also available from all 3, so far only Marine Depot stocks 1073.050.
