Pavona Maldivensis

Salty Red

I was wondering if I could get someone elses experience with this coral. I purchased this encrusting type of Pavona (the orange variety) and I have it in low light but it still seems to be bleaching a little bit. Anyone keeping these successfully? Everything else is doing well in my tank including a Pavona Decussatus. Tested all my parameters and even took a sample to my local fish store and they confirmed my readings. Should this be in extremely low light? Right now its about 3 inches off the bottom of my 65 gallon and I have a 6 bulb T5 fixture. Any help appreciated, thanks

I would say mine is in medium light and high flow. I run LEDs and the growth is really taking off lately.

lighting is just one thing to consider when placing a coral. Flow is also something to consider. My acros are thriving in the front of my tank where they get good flow, but the very same corals (8"-10" across) have poor color and polyp extension in the back where the flow is limited. I am using 2 mp40s on a 150. You can definitely see the difference.

+1 according to Vernon, this coral is found were the water flow is strong. This might be the part of it's husbandry you are missing.
Here is the link to that info...

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link Gary, it seems like everyone is confused on the care of this coral. In that link some say intense light while others have it in complete shade, medium flow to no flow. I would hate to lose this piece.
