would it have been better if instead of calling it paying it forward, which up to now i still dont get the idea why its called that way to think its more of coral trading or swapping, someone should have open a trade thread? im sure someone will take charge whoever has a large tank and is willing to adopt all our excess coral and make a list of what is available so anyone who has given a or some coral can view what is available, i guess that would have been better, there are couple of people who will take charge on this like erick, kudos to you man, giving away free saltwater or RO water, and then started the sand box thread or something like that, what u guys think?

Joe, you are right. This is really a trade thread.
Actually, when the original "Pay it Forward" thread was started I offered to set up a large tank to keep all the "Pay it Forward" stuff. I was shot down pretty quickly.
I would do it if everyone wanted. Then people could just come here and put stuff in and take stuff out. I would keep a webpage of what stuff was in the tank with current pictures and who put it in and who to what out.
I've got a pretty extensive quarantine system running now, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to add a 14 day qt cycle to the process. I have a 120 gallon tank ready to be set up, but don't have proper lighting for it, thought maybe the community could help with that. If not I would light part of the tank with MH for now as we started up the trade system.
I would love to do it. It would be fun to meet everyone and take care of the system.
What I'd really like to do is put a webcam on it so people could see it live.

the way i saw it even the first ever thread its not really a pay it forward thing, the way i understand pay it forward is giving away, helping other without the thought of or expecting anything in return. i've seen E's set up and im sure he can take care of all the coral we want to trade swap or whatever u call it, i'll be in for it as i have some stuff to trade if this ever pushes through as a trade thread

Sorry, I have seen this thread start and stop on many occasions, and it seems people do not know how to follow the SIMPLE guidelines. Speaks volumes about many things that this thread comes to a standstill over and over. They had zero issues in the original thread because people followed the guidelines instead of trying to modify the system and have a centralized "trade" tank full of bugs and parasites, because unfortunately whether you like it or not that's what you will end up with. That's not a shot at you Erick, just the first example thy came to mind. Did anyone even read the thread in the CMAS forum??

to some its not to some it is, there will always be greed posting even if u have 2 or 3 same thing of something of value, say are u gonna post that u wanna trade one of ur price coral if whats in for trade is a simple zoa or just a kenya tree???? no some of us wait till we see what we want before we offer something, thats not paying it forward thats looking for something of same value of what u want to give away, so to take doubt or taking advantage out of the equation why not jsut make this a trade thread
not to step on anyones toe's but whether we agree or not there is always this motive that we want something equal or more of value to what we are giving away,
some reefer here gave me free stuff when i was just starting, i know what i got rite now is not that much of value to them thats why im helping out newbies with some free corals or what ever i have in excess to have them started and i can look u in the eyes and tell you i dont expect anything in return, i guess thats the thought of the phrase paying it forward

The rules dictate that I cannot participate for 90days, but if I could this is how this thread would work:
Turbo, I will take a frag of the cloves, and I have a frag of wammin watermelon zoa to pay it forward to whoever claims it.
So then I would go pick up the cloves from him and wait for someone to contact me and pick up the zoa frag after they post something up themselves.
This is purely hypothetical and meant to be an example, but is it that difficult??

Anyway, rants aside, I still say the reason it dies isnt because people don't read it, but because they can't keep track. If I want to give a free coral to someone, then they are supposed to give a free coral to someone. But we don't really want to give the same person corals over and over again and ignore someone else so some way of keeping track is required.
That's just my thoughts...I base them on how I felt reading the other threads that were started.

It is a pay it forward style idea. Yes, similar to trading but more like offering up freebies at the trade cost of putting up something for smoeone else to choose.
AZSW, you can do this style of stuff. No selling is the rule that gets enforced. Offering free stuff is not a rule issue, especially since you are not directly trading and are possibly burning someone for profit.
I tried to keep a going list, but I am on and off when it comes to the intarwebnets so its on everyone to help keep track.
Also, it is REALLY common in freebie threads for things to not get picked up. I was on both sides of that (receiving and offering) and had it fall through. It's free stuff, no big deal as long as both parties are fine with why ever it fell apart.
So, everyone get this thread going again. Lets spread our coral around, ensure our colonies will always be somewhere available, help newbies, etc!

i can understand some peoples corals may be worth more than others but if they are willing to give ??? than whats the deal i may have low end corals but thats only couse thats what I can have right now so I could only take low end...

I don't think the problem is a lack of willingness to give. It seems the people here are very generous. I think it's just a lack of organization.

Value of coral shouldn't come into play in this thread, though I'm sure some people do consider it when posting to give or grab something. The point here is frag for frag, item for item. Organization is a pain. If every person updated a list in their post and just added their addition/subtraction it could be maintained easier.
