PBT and yellow Tang

I have a six foot 125 with a yellow tang. Would like to add a powder blue. Can the co exist ? If not will probably go with a bristle tooth. Thanks

Yes they can co exist without issues if done properly. You will need to catch the yellow tang out of the 125g and re acclimate him after you put the PBT in. Zebrasoma tangs are like all tangs aggressive toward one another but they will inflict much more damage to the PBT than the other way around. Catch the yellow, and reacclimate after you put the PBT in. Re arrange some rock work too

How big is the yellow tang and how long has it been in the tank? I would catch the yellow tang once the pbt is ready to go in the tank, rearrange the rockwork, and then introduce both at the same time. It may help if the pbt is the smaller of the two fish. IMO, depending on the size and particular individuals, the pbt is likely to be the stronger and more aggressive fish. If introduced properly and depending on the individual fish, the two fish should be able to coexist in the same tank.

They will be fine. Yellows aren't too aggressive. Although the PBT can be an real b*tch. Mine bust the chops on most new fish regardless of species, even tail spot blennies for a day.

if the pbt is the same or larger size than the yellow, the pbt should be able to hold its own. pbt is one tough tang except against ich.

Your tank is big enough for two tangs, but I would proceed with caution with these two. Powder Blues can be pretty mean; most YTs are a-holes. Sounds like a dangerous mix to me. It will only work if you get the right fish (personality wise). No way of knowing that obviously, and the odds are working against you.

Couple thoughts: I have four tangs: powder blue, purple, hippo, and yellow. Anytime another fish is added, the potential for aggression exists. Each fish has a different personality and one never knows quite what to expect but do expect at the least some temporary aggression. I have found similar sizes help. Aggression can run the gamut from a little chasing and nipping to homicidal rage. Additionally some fish will just hide and not feed. I prefer an acclimation box when I anticipate the potential for aggression and believe it to be the safest way to introduce a new fish

In terms of rearranging rock scape--sounds good but my rockscape was placed with the intention that it would never collapse or be rearranged. Perhaps it makes sense in a smaller tank but I have a 180 and it is just not a consideration for me

Meanest fish I've ever had was a powder blue. He started out in a community 180. After 6 months, he decided he wanted the entire tank to himself. Beautiful fish.....at a really big price.

I just put a pbt(5") in with my yt(3.5") yesterday. Put a mirror on the side of the tank before I put the pbt in and that did the trick. I also put a yellow neon goby and blue neon goby in. Its really neat to see the pbt and yt pull up to the station to get a checkup.

I had a yellow with a powder blue in a 180g. I added the larger yellow first and then the powder blue. There was a little bickering but that went away until the powder blue got bigger. Then he got extremely aggressive and beat up the yellow to the point of having to remove the yellow. Now the PBT is the only tang in the tank.
