Dear All,
I have had a PBT for 9 months now. About a month ago, I noticed what appeared to be an injury to the eye. It looked like a large white cyst (like a large Ich cyst) in the center of his left eye. The eye clouded up slightly and then cleared up and this cyst appeared and disappeared three times. A few days ago, I noticed the eye had turned very cloudy, and I am very concerned for him. He cannot see out of that eye, and keeps his right eye turned towards me at all times. This time the cloudiness seems worse, and it isn't dissipating. I am worried he is not only in pain (although his behaviour and eating are normal), but that he will suffer permanent sight loss in that eye. What is the prognosis for this? A cycled quarantine tank is ready and available, but I worry about the stress of dragging him out of the display and then medicating him. Is there anything I can do other than maintain excellent water conditions and soak the food in Selcon? Is there any reef safe medication for this? Will his eye ever clear up? I am very worried.
Matt
P.S.: Just a history, he came in with Ich, but he went straight into quarantine. After the hyposalinity quarantine treatment I developed (look for an upcoming article in RC), the Ich seemed to have disappeared. He remained in the same quarantine tank for the remainder of the 8 month's time as it turned out I would have to move and purchase a new system. I wanted to avoid moving him two extra times. He spent the remained of his time after hyposalinity at normal salinity, and never showed any symptoms. The system he is in now is only 2 months old, which I know can lead to more stress, but we were without many options.
