PC monitor failure: is it worth repairing?

it takes 30 minutes for our monitor to warm up and display anything.

It's a 7 year old Dell flat screen. Repairable? Worth repairing?

looks like it's time to stimulate the economy some more :jester:

Wow, I'm surprised your monitor lasted that long. NirvanaFan hit it right on the spot. That's the exact monitor I am using as I type!

Flats are cheap these days. I'm sure you will be able to get a good deal. Samsung is one of the best.

nope, ditch and buy new. get a flat screen, just make sure it has a VGA input, some of the new ones are DVI only and [i'm guessing based on the old monitor] that you have VGA only. that or get an adapter :)

Unless you need something special for graphic art or specialized printing where your colors need to be exact just about anything will decide on these days will work fine. My second monitor is a 28" Hanns G. I've had it for 2 years and it still looks great. I've noticed that having extra screen real estate is always good especially as I get older, lol.

NewEgg is where I got mine. Still $299 with like $9 shipping. Definately worth the money IMHO.

Goodluck with whatever you choose.

Wait a month if you can hold out. Flat screen monitors are always one of the big sale items online on Black Friday

Gary, not sure if you bought yet, but check out NewEgg. They've actually started their "Black Friday" deals already. They have this Acer 21.5" monitor for $139.99 (and yes it does have both DVI and analog RGB outputs, so it will work with an older PC):

I bought an Acer for my kid a couple of years ago, and he's quite happy with it. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Take the old one outside and have a little hammer therapy session....<a href="http://www.bigoo.ws"><img alt="profile editor" border="0" src="http://media.bigoo.ws/content/smile/mad/mad_227.gif"></a><p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom:</a></p>
