PE and coral growth

Ok :) I was just curious. I have good to very good PE on all the corals in my newly started tank and all corals are growing... Fascinating creatures! :)

I also assumed that a coral with good PE was an indication that the coral was "happy" and in good health...but I might be very wrong...

If you go diving during the day you'll notice very little PE on most SPS, they seem to grow pretty well in nature :) Often the biggest deciding factor on PE is the presence of nippers or pests and angelfish and butterflies are probably the primary reason you don't see PE in nature during the day. It's probably also made it necessary from an evolutionary standpoint for these types of corals to derive a lot of their nutrition from photosynthesis.

Interesting...diving on a coral reef is on my bucket list! :)

I also heard that food abundance is higher at night rather than the day, therefore polyp extension is going to be greater at night. LPS corals kinda confirm this theory, and in many cases have to be trained to open polyps throughout the day by daily feedings. I don't see why sps are different.

there is a direct correlation in my tank btween feeding and polyp extension.

I use FUEL from time to time. After a tank dose i notice considerable increase in polyp extension a few minutes. Cant give any support that it increases growth though.
