I have been using bio-pure mysis for a long time but i here everyone talk about pe mysis as being the best. I would just like to know what makes that brand so much better. Becausd the cost is a big diffrence. 16 oz pack of bio pure is 8.49 and a 16 oz pack of pe's is 26.99. They also have h2o life brand at 1 lb for 10.99. Thanks in advance

You need to look at the crude protein count in PE vs. other major brands. PE is close to 70% as compared to 10% in most other brands. Basically its a lot better nutritionally for your fish. But for years I fed the other stuff and did just fine as well...soooo I guess its mostly a matter of personal taste. I wish it was a little smaller...

regardless of cost i will always use pe mysis because you can feed less to your fish and they will grow and thrive .much more nutritious for sure

Agreed. Also the water content is minimal so you get more for your money. And then there is the issue that some fish gobble down PE mysis and do not do the same with Hikari. Why, I do not know, but the fish know.

Aren't the PE mysis considerably larger than the H2O ones? Some fish might not be able to swallow them.

I can find the smaller flat pack around my area for $7 bucks. I find my chromis will pickup the pieces my triggers leave behind. The tangs and angels could care less for it at this time, preferring the Hikari for some strange reason.

PE doesn't use a binding agent like all other frozen fish food companies do. So you're getting 100% shrimp in the cubes and not water. That's the reason for the price difference. They're going to be sold at Petco pretty soon.

Yea that's the only problem with my area I can't get it locally, and I have to order it online if I want it. I was able to get it where I used to live, but not here. I am stuck with Ocean Nutrition. I actually take the ON mysis, brine, squid, krill, and spirulina brine, nori from the market, and market shrimp, and half a large bottle of NLS 1mm sinking pellets, throw it in the blender, mix it up really good, and use $1.50 ice cube trays from wal-mart to freeze it in. I cut one cube in thirds each day and feed it to my fish x3 daily. Sometimes my fish were picky about food, they'd kill certain stuff and only nibble at others. I've found by mixing it all together they can't tell the difference at all.

thanks everyone, I was just wondering cause I am needing to order more frozen foods and was looking through F&S and noticed they were so much more in cost. I think I will give it a try and see how my fish react. I guess it never hurts to try

i have used several times & all fish went nuts for it. i have tried just about all frozen foods including rods. people rave about rods but my fish must not have read all the post on it, because they did not seem impressed at all. not trying to bash rods just using as a example. i have had the best reaction from pe misis then any other food i have used. i can`t get locally so i don`t get to purchase very often due to shipping cost. if i could get local it would be my main food. i was getting from reefs2go with free shipping if you purchased over $50 worth. but they stopped selling frozen food for some reason. like above you get more shrimp & less water which makes it last longer then normal frozen. if you can get local i recommend you give it a try

PE mysis used to be the only one selling the freshwater mysis relicta. which is different (larger different protein content) that the saltwater mysids all the other companies sell. Aqua Treasures is now also selling the relicta at a cheaper price point than PE so i expect PEs price to come down soon as well. that being said, i think they are both superior to the other mysis foods out there and worth the extra cost.

Ive just been feeding the Hakari ones and my Clown goes nuts for them, along with everything else. I guess its hard to say as I haven't tried the other, and my clown usually just stuffs it into the anemone rather than eating it :|

My Fire Shrimp loves it though.

I tried the PE and for some reason, as others mentioned, due to its largeness, my fish does not eat it. my kids tell me why I am feeding scorpions to the fish :)
any hikari brand frozen food I feed gets eaten before it hits the sand.
so it does not matter if it has 100% protein, as it is no good if my fish don't eat it.

i have never had the hikari brand but the pe is very ,very clean with every single shrimp is whole and no small pieces to waist . i have used it exclusively and had no po4 problems so it has to be low in that category .

I had a juvinille clown goby that would grab the big pieces and swim off till he got it down then come back for more. is there any reef fish smaller than that?

you can also break it up pretty easy as it is somewhat "tender" for smaller fish . i like it and my fish all love it . even my cleaner wrasses can eat it with no problem so it is small enough for them .

Really they didn't like Rod's? I had been feeding the san fran brand when I first got in the hobby before I knew about Rod's or PE. When I got the Rod's and fed it, I had never ever seen my fish go that stir crazy over fish food. The only other foods I have seen them go like that over is PE, and brine shrimp and other mysis from other brands. Like I said, now that I mix up lots of different foods they can't seem to tell the difference, and go just as crazy over it. The Rod's has lots of different stuff in it, so I think it's the fact that it's a variety and that there may be just one thing in the food they like, but since it is mixed up they will eat all of it, thinking it is just the one food they like in there. How should I know though I am just a human not a fish:D
