I'm curious if it's possible for a pair to form with minimal fighting? I introduced my 2 clowns a month ago and they've been getting on famously. I keep expecting to come down to the male cowering in the corner, but they just seem to be getting on better every day. Will it last, or will it get worse before they make it "official?"
Tank = 20g
Male = TB 1.5" ORA Domino occ. Smallest of 4 at the LFS. Added him 2 days before female (wanted him to get settled in before the "nagging" began) :lol:
Female = TB 2" Onyx perc. Bought online from Alpha Corals. She was alone in their tank.
It was love at first site for the male; he follows her everywhere. The female will occasionally chase him away, but he's always allowed straight back to her side. I haven't noticed any submissive wiggling, he just backs off instead (and then returns to her.)
One time I did witness her pick him up in her mouth and shake him for a couple of seconds, which was rather alarming! But he didn't seem phased in the slightest. The only actual damage I've seen to him is a little nip out of his dorsal fin, (it looks like she's been "styling" his hair!)
She used to sleep near the surface, with him a few inches below her, but the last few nights they've been sleeping side by side near the sandbed.
I had B&Ws in my last tank and they were never this chummy (even after 2 yrs!). Have I got really lucky this time? Or are they just too young to care about such things yet? I thought it would be harder with an occ x perc pairing.
I know nobody can really say for sure, I guess what I'm asking is, have "peaceful" pairings happened before to anyone?
